ANDREW WOMMACK

Founder and director of Andrew Wommack Ministries
Andrew grew up in a Christian home and was born again at the age of eight. He avoided the rebellious phase in his youth and went in the opposite direction and became a modern Pharisee. Andrew believed that through his own righteousness and good works he could develop his relationship with the Lord.
Then, one Saturday night in 1968, everything changed. Andrew had an encounter with God that changed his life forever. For him it was like looking in a mirror and seeing his reflection clearly for the first time. What did he see? He saw the reflection of a hypocrite, similar to the Pharisees whom Jesus had rebuked. He recognized that he was bound by law. He began to confess his self-righteousness and expected that the wrath of God would fall on him. But instead of wrath, God's presence flooded him with love. Now he understood that he had tried to earn God's love through good works and religious services. He said, "God's love has consumed me. When I was at my worst, God's love was the strongest. "Andrew was never the same since then.
Andrew's encounter with God motivated him to make another life-changing decision. He decided to leave college to follow God's guidance in his life, even though he knew it would cost him certain privileges. He was then drafted into the army and sent to Vietnam, where he served as an assistant chaplain. As difficult and dangerous as this time on the front line was, God used it to strengthen Andrew in His Word and to determine the course of his life.
Upon his return, Andrew bowed to the call of God, a call to be a teacher of His Word. He and Jamie married in 1972 and together they began teaching Bible groups. In the following six years they led three small churches and grew into a family with two sons, Joshua and Jonathan Peter.
